Can You Freeze Avocados?
How Do I Keep My Avocados Fresh?
We want your avocados from us to be the best you’ve ever tasted, so we have put together this handy guide to keep our fruit in the best condition possible for when you fancy a bit of something delicious on your toast.
There are a tonne of ways to preserve your avocados for longer, especially if you’re buying them in bulk. (we never want to run out either.) Plenty of our customers turn to the internet to ask how to store avocados, so we’ve made it easier for you!
Step One: Buy fresh. This may sound easier said than done. But we’re here to do this part for you. Certified growers of avocados deliver the freshest of the pick right to your door, so you don’t have to worry about previous supermarket handling, cold storage, squeezing or delayed delivery. We organise the freshest produce for you and get it to you fast, so you know you’re starting in the right place with fresh avocados.
Step Two: Once your avocados have arrived, it’s time to store them safely. They will arrive unripe (as they tend to when bought fresh), you can leave them in the box they came in or transfer them to a fruit bowl out of direct sunlight. Heat and sunlight will hasten the ripening process, but too much sunlight can actually cook the avocado from the inside out and leave the flesh browning and mushy. A tad gross when you discover it. Our avocados take about 5-7 days to ripen for consumption.
Note: Once your avocados have ripened, you should ideally consume them within two days. If more than your fill has ripened, store the extra avocados in the fridge. That way they will keep for another week or two, depending on the stage of ripeness they’ve reached.
